Adapted from the French alpine inn Adray-Telebar at Meribel, this house explores the ‘cape’ style dwelling with the ridge beam rotated 90 degrees from what is conventionally executed. It gives a larger expanse of roof to protect from both sun and snow, while allowing a spacious 2nd floor. A colored, concrete radiant slab is placed on a conventionally framed wood floor system. Careful solar orientation has the sun heating the roof in summer (and not the inside of the house) and in winter, the interior of the house.
